The name “LaFerrari” alone lets me know that there’s no way that I could acquire (or probably even see)Hublot‘s new watch this in person. And that’s OK — I don’t even like it at all.
But it’s not directed at someone like me, who just needs his watch to tell time. It’s directed at customers that don’t need it and have money to burn, like every other Hublot. There’s a customer for every product, so it is what it is.
Aesthetically, the LaFerrari is more G.I. Joe than anything else. I even saw it getting joked on as the “Cobra Commander” Hublot, and that title fits. It’s actually a tourbillon watch with a 50-day power reserve. After those 50 days, it requires a drill to wind it back up.
Yup, a drill.
More technically, the watch has a custom HUB9005.H1.6 movement and displays the time in vertical registers. You can see the rotating balance wheel to keep the time, as well as a winding port on top for drill entry. There is also a power reserve that let’s you know how much time you have left.
The handmade LaFerrari is super-limited, with only 50 being made. And the price? A cool $300,000 USD.
Visit Hublot’s website to check out more — but who are you kidding: you’ll never see one, either.
